POWER OF INTERNET
Living in the twenty-first century, we have so many resources to rely on. Technology being one of them, it is the most abundant source of knowledge in today’s world. From us writing this book to you reading it, all of this has been possible only because of technology. The Internet is a domain of technology, which connects people from around the world and can be your knowledge guru whenever and wherever you want. Life has become so easy and effortless from the times when internet technologies and telephone mobile services did not exist. We completely rely on the internet these days, even if it is unknowingly.
As mentioned already, the Internet has an ample amount of guides and suggestions for what you are looking for, and it is a complete treasure of knowledge. Everything has two faces, and so does the internet. It can be used in the most beneficial forms and for good, and on the other hand, it can be interpreted wrong and people can misuse it.
When we talk about good uses, it can be from exploring your passion online, to actually making a career out of it. There are so many social media platforms present in today’s time that help you to grow on your skill and spread it out in the world for it to see and become famous, some of them being Youtube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc. These applications are a part of the internet, and they can either make or break your mindset. Youtube is a place where millions of people upload videos every day related to their talent, skills, or passion. Some make a solid career out of it, while the others take it as a side occupation. People do earn a lot of money out of youtube. There are vlogging channels, gaming, teaching, reviews, public speaking, motivational channels and the list goes on. But the whole point of this is, how these people interpreted this opportunity. There are people who just sit back and watch people and judge them or maybe upload inappropriate content on such platforms, and that is their way of interpreting this whole situation.
It completely depends on you and what kind of approach you have towards the internet. It depends on the type of content you consume and that is where your complete mentality gets built from. A person who is willing to do something can take the biggest advantage of such platforms. There are plenty of free courses online which you can pursue for zero amount and get so much knowledge from it. You can learn anything and everything you want. You can watch video lectures to learn a topic which you are unable to understand, you can learn a new skill, for example cooking, or playing guitar, or maybe you can master a skill you already have.
As we said earlier, everything has its own advantages and disadvantages. The internet can be beneficial, but it can be addictive too. People get so much distracted by internet online activities sometimes that it tends to drag their focus down from their motive and they get distracted. The internet is built that way, and it is how you interpret it. We have become very reliant on it. Can't understand something? No problem, google's got your back. Want to cook something delicious for the tribe? Youtube got you! People have gotten so much indulged into it unknowingly that it has become a part of their daily lifestyle.
Just an example, when we compare the life of a fifteen year old today with a fifteen year old 8 years back, the latter got much more practical knowledge those days, and kids were free from any type of social pressure back in the days. But the former kid probably has more social knowledge, but a lot more anxiety and mental pressure these days. The Internet has brought an impact on all types of generations, from adults to kids and teenagers, even senior citizens for that matter. Kids get bullied online, there are so many cyber crimes happening all across the world on well known platforms and there is nothing that can be done about it. Teenagers probably spend more time scrolling reels on instagram than going out and playing sports or doing something productive. That's the reason why kids these days have so many physical as well as mental problems, they are unhealthy because they chose to sit at a place and be on the internet over spending some time with family. They get so much influenced by the social lives of people on the internet that they start believing that all this is real, and they take huge steps just so that they can have such lifestyles. Even little kids these days have specs for their eyes these days, and gain weight just by sitting and doing nothing. Some tend to get tortured mentally by certain stuff online, and the others get involved in mal practices. Senior citizens tend to spend more time on the phone just so that they do not feel lonely, because no one around them is free, everyone has work to do, EVERYONE IS BUSY ON THE INTERNET!
If we look at the good side of this technology, there exist so many social media platforms that help you grow. Professionally, we have Linkedin, Internshala, etc. For entertainment purposes, we have Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hotstar, and so much more. To connect to the world we have Twitter and Instagram. All of this gives us so much general knowledge and awareness if we actually use these platforms in a correct manner. There are ample opportunities, internships, jobs that we can get online and get paid for, showcasing our talent and skill. This also has helped the weaker sections of the society as they have got access to the internet and they have been making the most out of it, because people are now aware of opportunities these days. Freelancing, content creation are a few of the vast variety of job opportunities to mention. This has also led to an increase in employment.
During covid, the internet was our biggest support. According to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), during the COVID-19 pandemic, Internet user ranks grew to 4.9 billion in 2021, from 4.1 billion in 2019. Remote education, remote work and remote health services came within the reach of many. Again, the Internet is a box full of knowledge, everything comes back to your will, and your way of interpreting and using this knowledge.
